Workplace Relations

YOUR EMPLOYEE RIGHTS AND HOW TO REPORT WRONGFUL CONDUCT

The Federal Judiciary, including the Federal Public Defender Organizations (FPDOs), is committed to a workplace of respect, civility, fairness, tolerance, and dignity, free of discrimination and harassment. These values are essential to FPDOs, which hold Federal Public Defenders (FPDs) and their employees to the highest standards. All FPDs and employees are expected to treat each other accordingly.

If you feel that you have been subjected to discrimination, sexual, racial, or other discriminatory harassment, abusive conduct, or retaliation in the workplace, you have rights. Early action is the best way to maintain a safe work environment. For more information, please see the Federal Public Defender, Western District of Pennsylvania Employment Dispute Resolution Plan.

The Judicial Conduct and Disability Act allows complaints alleging that a federal judge has engaged in “conduct prejudicial to the effective and expeditious administration of the business of the courts” or has become, by reason of a temporary or permanent condition, “unable to discharge the duties” of the judicial office. The complaint form can be found here. The Rules for Judicial-Conduct and Judicial-Disability Proceedings can be found here.
